What is a MLS?

If you're buying or selling a home, you may have heard your real estate agent mention the MLS (Multiple Listing Service). You might wonder, "Isn’t the MLS the same as the consumer websites I find online?" The answer is…not exactly.

While consumer websites display home listings and allow you to search property details, the MLS is the original source for most of that data. MLS databases are created and maintained by real estate professionals, with information input and verified by REALTORS   and other agents. This makes the MLS the most accurate and up-to-date source for property listings.

The MLS is a centralized tool your agent uses to find properties that match your criteria, access real-time market information, and review historical sales and comparable properties. This helps your agent advise you on the best offer price and ensures you're seeing every available option in your target area.

It’s an essential resource I use to help my buyers evaluate all potential properties.
